Pink Saturday - November 19

Happy Pink Saturday. Thank you to Beverly from How Sweet the Sound for hosting our weekly pink meetings.

The epic jewellery collection that belonged to Elizabeth Taylor will be auctioned in December.

Because of my magpie obsession with all things sparkly, I will be featuring several pieces of the jewellery over the next couple weeks.

My Pink Saturday offering is

The "Triphanes" Sautoir was made by Van Cleef & Arpels.

A detachable pendant with an oval cut kunzite sits within a circular cut diamond setting. This sits in an amethyst bead frame with kunzite and diamond detail. Mounted in 18kt gold it is 27 inches. The necklace can be shortened to 19 inches or 16 inches and a detachable segment can be worn as a bracelet.

It is estimated it will sell for $70,000 to $100,000.

Can't afford that? How about a matching pair of earrings?
These are estimated to fetch $15,000 -$20,000.

Come back on Monday for another spectacular piece from Elizabeth Taylor's collection.

Thank you to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting this weekly gathering of all things Pink.

This week I am sharing things my grandmother made. She was a really crafty person.

She knitted and she sewed.

She crocheted

She embroidered

She tatted

Her youngest granddaughter likes doing all of of the above, but she likes making jewellery the best!

This week it is a sterling silver and rhodocrosite necklace.

Last week Tracey from Honeysuckle and Hissy Fits joined Pink Saturdays. Just love that name. I visited her again during the week and found out we are both Cavalier lovers. Welcome to the Pinkers Tracey!

My own little Lexie.

And a special thank you to my sister who directed me to a website with the information on how to make my pictures bigger. I'll share this info if anyone wants to know.

Have a great week. I hope to visit with you all again next Saturday.

Spring Etsy Treasury-Just Wishing

I'm starting off the new week by having my handmade sterling silver peridot earrings included in another treasury on Etsy.

Curated by Simple Sundries. Please check out her shop, she has really cute handmade pendants.

The treasury is available for viewing until Monday evening. And please visit my Etsy store Gracie Jewellery.

I am so happy other Artisans think my jewellery is worthy of being included in their treasuries.

Caring for your Sterling Silver Jewellery

The Latin word for silver is Ag - Argentum meaning 'white and shining'.

Sterling silver is made of 92.5% and 7.5% copper. Combine silver with gemstones and you have a beautiful piece of jewellery.

Care is needed to keep your sterling silver jewellery looking good. Silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the air. This creates a dull build up, robbing silver jewellery of its natural sheen. Keeping your silver jewellery in a cool dry place will help it avoid tarnishing. If you don’t plan on wearing your silver jewellery for a period of time store it away from direct exposure to sunlight or artificial light. Keep each piece separate as storing silver jewellery among other pieces of jewellery cause them to rub against each other creating scratches. Do not expose silver jewellery to chlorinated water or bleach and do not apply hair colours or permanent solutions while wearing your jewellery. A diluted solution of mild dishwashing liquid and water using a soft toothbrush is a quick effective way to clean your silver jewellery. Rinse well under running water and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth.

A Silver Jewellery polishing cloth is useful for a quick rub after daily wearing.

For homemade polishing cloths check out tipnut.com

Gracie Jewellery uses Argentium sterling silver wire. Argentium Sterling Silver is sterling silver with less of the copper alloy. Argentium is 92.5% pure silver with the balance a mix of germanium and copper. This makes Argentium Sterling Silver harder, brighter and more highly tarnish resistant than traditional sterling silver.

If cared for properly, handcrafted pieces of Sterling Silver jewellery can become heirlooms for generations to come.

Anonymous asked: Do you have complete moments of inspiration and wonder where the time has gone?
I do have moments of complete inspiration and then the time flies. When a piece doesn't go like I see in my head, then it gets frustrating. The bracelet pictured below has over 100 pieces of black onyx and freshwater pearls. It took over 2 hours to make but boy did the time fly!

My Table at the Niagara Winter Wonderland Show Nov 28,29 2009

This show was held in a church hall and other than freezing to death the first day, it was a success.

Welcome to Gracie Jewellery!

Jewellery is my passion! Even as a little girl, I knew jewellery would figure prominently in my future. My first job was in a fine jewellery store. No costume jewellery here. I was in my element, surrounded by gold, silver and diamonds.

I have spent 22 years in the jewellery business. Selling it, repairing it, always enjoying it.

And now I’m doing what I love best. I take pride in creating affordable casually elegant jewellery using high quality Argentium sterling silver wire (stronger and higher tarnish resistant than regular silver) and an ever growing assortment of semiprecious gemstones and top quality Swarovski crystals. I travel to the supplier to personally select all my beads. It is a 2½ hour drive, but I want to pick each bead. I'm fussy that way.
