What's in a Name?

It took1 month for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to name Charles!

It took 2 weeks for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson to name Beatrice!

It took 1 week for Prince Charles and Princess Diana to

Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service

Today was the last of the 4 day celebration of
Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

A service of Thanksgiving was held at
St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

Her Majesty looked simply splendid in a mint green outfit by Angela Kelly.

Take a good look at the brooch. These are what the Queen calls "Granny's chips". These diamonds are the third and fourth parts of the Cullinan diamonds. This brooch has a combined diamond weight of 154 carats!

The Duchess of Cambridge wearing Alexander McQueen

Do you think her earrings are a family heirloom?

10 Days of Tiara's - Part 4

The Sapphire and Diamond Tiara

The sapphire tiara was made with a sapphire collar once owned by
Louise of Belgium, Princess of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha purchased by the Queen in 1963.

The tiara was made in 1963 to match a sapphire suite originally made in 1850 given to Queen Elizabeth by her father King George VI on the occasion of her 1947 wedding.

So what did your dad give you when you married?

10 Days of Tiara's -Part 3

The Vladimir Tiara

Made in 1890 this tiara originally belonged to
The Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia.

A British diplomat smuggled the tiara out of Russia during the Revolution in 1917.

Queen Elizabeth's grandmother Queen Mary bought this tiara in 1921 after the Grand Duchess died.

Queen Mary had the tiara adapted so that the hanging pearls could be exchanged with the Cambridge cabochon emeralds.

Augusta, the Duchess of Cambridge who was the grandmother of Queen Mary won the Emeralds in a charity lottery in 1818.

The emeralds were originally left to Queen Mary's brother, Prince Francis of Teck. He left the emeralds to his mistress. Ah, but Queen Mary had other ideas. Queen Mary bought back the Cambridge Emeralds. She had some of them set with diamond clasps to fit the tiara.

The tiara without the pearls and emeralds. Not nearly as impressive.

As a young child of the sixties going to school in Canada, this is the picture we looked at as we sang God Save the Queen every morning.

I like it best with the pearls. How about you?

10 Days of Tiaras - Part Two & Pink Saturday

The Burmese Ruby Tiara

The 96 rubies in this tiara were given as a gift from the Burmese people

Believing rubies to have prophylactic properties, the tiara was specially designed to protect the wearer against the 96 diseases the Burmese people believe can afflict the human body.

The diamonds are believed to have come from this Cartier-made tiara.

Since the Queen is 86 years of age and appears to be in wonderful health, maybe there is something to the power of rubies.

Love how Kate and Charles always seem to be enjoying each others' company.

Well I didn't.  Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth!  What pink outfit will you be wearing to celebrate?

 Nice but too pale.

 Again, nice but too dark.

 Lovely, but too formal.

Alright!  Perfect!  Love the hat. Love the colour.  Love the jewels.
By the way, if you ever need someone to look after all that jewellery, you know, clean, inventory, guard and drool over it, I'm your girl!

Wishing you many happy returns!

Now get ready, because all the Pinkers who visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound will be coming 'round to wish you a happy birthday too!
